That grocery store butcher counter changed my meal planning approach
I used to buy all my meat pre-packaged at Walmart until I visited the butcher counter at a small local market in Nashville last month. The butcher showed me how buying a whole chicken for $8 and breaking it down myself gave me three times the meat compared to the same cost for pre-cut parts. Has anyone else switched to whole cuts and found it actually saves more than you expect?

Learned the same thing when I started breaking down whole pork shoulders for pulled pork. Way cheaper per pound and the leftover bones make killer stock.

Wait, are you telling me the bones thing really makes that much of a difference? I started doing whole chickens too last year after my friend showed me, and yeah, the savings are real but I never thought to actually use the carcass for stock.
