Swapped my grocery store chicken for the discount bin at 6pm, no regrets
I used to just grab the first pack of chicken breasts I saw, but last Tuesday I hit the meat section right when they mark stuff down. Got a family pack for $4.80 that was originally $11. The sell-by was that same night, so I portioned it into freezer bags with some marinade right when I got home. It cooked up totally fine, even a week later. Do you guys trust the discount meat or is that a hard no for you?

The marinade trick is the real pro move there. Most people skip that step and then wonder why frozen meat tastes off later. Also worth checking if your store does a second markdown around closing time, some places will slash it again.
My rule of thumb is if it still smells neutral and the package isn't puffy, it's fair game. Just don't buy anything with juice leaking out, that's when you get into gamble territory.
