Realized I was cooking rice wrong for 12 years, thanks to a $2 steamer basket
I always washed rice until the water ran clear, then cooked it like pasta in a big pot of boiling water. That worked okay but mushy half the time. Last month my aunt from Houston showed me her trick: rinse twice max, then use a 1:1.5 rice to water ratio with a lid that fits snug. Took one try and my rice came out perfect, never going back to the boil method. Anyone else been doing some kitchen habit wrong forever without knowing it?

Honestly my grandma would disown me if she heard this but I've been raw dogging rice in a pot with no lid for years because I liked the texture. Turns out I was just making rice flavored oatmeal and calling it dinner. Buying that $2 steamer basket felt like admitting defeat but now I'm the rice snob in my friend group, so it's worth the humility.
