Question about buying in bulk at Costco versus the local grocery store
I was at the Costco in Portland last weekend and grabbed a 10-pound bag of rice for $8. That seemed like a steal compared to $4 for a 2-pound bag at Fred Meyer. But then I got home and realized I don't have a good way to store that much rice, and it took up half my pantry shelf. Plus, I saw online that bulk rice can get weevil bugs if you don't use it fast enough. So now I'm wondering if the $8 savings is really worth the hassle of storing it all and worrying about it going bad. Has anyone else run into this with bulk buys and found a system that actually works?

Oh man, the great rice gamble! Nothing says adulting like panic-googling weevil prevention at 10pm while your pantry looks like a tsunami hit a bulk section. I've been there too, and I ended up vacuum sealing the stuff into smaller bags which worked great until I forgot which bag I opened and had six half-empty rice containers like some kind of chaotic rice crypt.
