My neighbor in Fresno swore dried beans save money, but my first pot tasted like dirt
My neighbor Rosa keeps a huge jar of pinto beans in her pantry and she promised me I could feed my family of four for under $10 a week if I skipped the cans and cooked dried ones instead. I soaked them overnight like she instructed but rushed the simmer on a Tuesday and ended up with a pot of beans that were still hard in the middle and honestly kind of bland. Does anyone have a simmer time or a trick that actually works, or should I just stick with the $1.25 cans at the grocery store?
