My $7 chicken disaster in Austin back in 2019

I was living in Austin and tried to stretch a pack of chicken thighs for a week. Day three rolled around and I left them out overnight by accident. Had to toss the whole batch and eat rice and beans for the rest of the week. Anyone else lose a cheap meal to a dumb mistake like that?

Is losing three day old chicken thighs really that big of a deal though? I mean, you still had rice and beans which is a perfectly fine meal. Sounds like you dodged a bullet honestly because if you'd eaten it you probably would've been sick for a week. Rice and beans might be boring but they're a lot better than food poisoning if you ask me.

Respectfully @the_aaron, three day old chicken thighs that were stored properly are totally fine to eat in most cases. Food safety rules are important, but tossing perfectly good meat just because of an arbitrary time limit is a waste of money and food. Rice and beans work in a pinch, but that's not really the same as a proper meal with protein.
