Just overheard a guy at Kroger say he freezes his leftover tomato paste

He said he scoops it into teaspoon portions on a baking sheet, freezes it, then pops them into a bag. Has anyone else tried freezing small portions of ingredients to avoid waste?

OH man that is GENIUS! I've been doing that with tomato paste for years and it saves SO much waste. I buy the big cans because it's cheaper per ounce then freeze half of it in ice cube trays. Once they're solid I pop them out into a ziploc bag. I also do this with chopped garlic in olive oil and leftover heavy cream. For cream I just pour it into a small mason jar and freeze it flat on its side then when I need some for a pasta sauce I just run the jar under hot water and pop the frozen disk out. Never throwing away half-used cans again is life changing.

Wait, you freeze heavy cream in mason jars and it actually works without the jars breaking? I've been too scared to try that because I thought the expansion would crack the glass.
