Burnt a pot of beans so bad I had to throw it out
I was trying to save time by cooking dried pinto beans on high instead of simmering them low, walked away to fold laundry, and came back to this black crusted mess that smelled up my whole kitchen for two days. Had to buy a new $12 pot from Target and now I'm wondering if anyone else has ruined a cheap meal by trying to rush it too hard.

Threw some old rice in a cheap pot and learned to set a timer on my phone after that.

Used to roll my eyes at people saying you can't rush beans. Then I did exactly what you did, blasted a pot of black beans on high because I was late for a dentist appointment. Came back to what looked like a charcoal briquette. @blaker75 is right about the phone timer thing, I set one for everything now even toast. That burnt bean smell lingers for days, I had to boil vinegar water just to clear it out.
