Warning: tried using a diamond blade on a regular grinder for firebrick and it shattered after 10 cuts

Blew pieces everywhere on the job site in Austin and now I'm stuck using a rented wet saw for the rest of the chimney, has anyone else had a blade fail like that just from switching materials?

That 10 cut mark is suspicious, did you check if the blade was actually rated for masonry before you started? My crew had a blade let go once because it was designed for tile, not dense firebrick. What specific brand and RPM rating were you running on that diamond blade?

Actually most masonry diamond blades will handle firebrick just fine since it's softer than regular brick or concrete. The bigger issue is usually the RPM rating on the blade not matching the saw you're running it on. Gotta double check that spec before you spool it up.
