Two days to fix a 12 foot garden wall I laid in one afternoon

Put in a retaining wall last spring behind my buddy's place in Dayton, used some old reclaimed brick we got for free. Looked fine for a month, then the whole middle section bulged out after a heavy rain. Turns out I skipped the weep holes and didn't backfill with gravel, so the water pressure just pushed it over. Took me two full weekends to tear it down, redo the footing, and lay it again with proper drainage. Anyone else ever learn the hard way that drainage beats speed on these small walls?
