The time an inspector called my brickwork 'too perfect' in Nashville

I was laying a new front wall for a house in Nashville last month, and the city inspector showed up to check things over. He looked at my joints and said, 'Nobody lays brick that straight, you must have used a laser guide.' I told him I just use a level and string, but he kept shaking his head. It hit me different because I thought he was joking at first, but he was serious about it looking fake. Has anyone else had an inspector question their work just because it was too clean?

Nobody lays brick that straight" - sounds like he's never watched a bricklayer with 20 years of experience and good eyesight. A level and string is all you need if you actually know what you're doing.

Man it's really not that deep. People get so caught up in calling out obvious tricks or whatever but like who cares if the bricks are straight or not, is the wall standing up?
