Shoutout to the old timer who caught me buttering joints wrong
I've been laying block for about 7 years now and always buttered the head joints on the bed, not the vertical face of the last brick. A retired mason named Hank watched me for 10 seconds last Tuesday and pointed out I was washing out my mud on every lift. Anybody else learn a basic move like this way later than they should have?

Stop buttering your trowel and start buttering the lead brick's face instead.

Hate when people get all technical with the trowel talk. Took me three whole bricks before I realized I was buttering wrong and had to chisel them apart. Solid advice honestly, saves a lot of frustration and wasted mortar.
