Serious question, the mason in Baltimore who fixed my raked joint with a spoon handle
Had a job in Baltimore last month, a small garden wall for a lady off Falls Road, and I was fighting my raker all morning. Joints kept tearing, mortar smearing on the face, and I was getting hot about it. The guy working the lot next door walked over with his coffee, watched me for a minute, and asked if he could try something. He grabbed a plastic spoon, snapped the handle off, and ran the rounded end down my joint about 20 minutes after the mortar set up. Went through like butter, no tearing, cleaner than anything my $30 tool did all day. Turns out he laid brick for 31 years and never owned a real raker. I keep that spoon handle in my bucket now and the tool stays in the truck. What tool have you ditched on account of some old trick someone showed you on site?
