I wasted $300 on a fancy trowel that sits in my truck now

Bought a Marshalltown carbon steel trowel last spring thinking it would make my brickwork smoother. Thing got rusty after one rainy job in Atlanta and the handle cracked by week three. My old $40 trowel from the hardware store still works fine after two years. Anyone else fall for the expensive tool hype?

Man I feel this in my soul lol. Bought a fancy levels once with all these magnetic edges and digital readouts thinking I was hot stuff, ended up dropping it off a scaffold on day two and it cracked like an egg. Now I just use a cheap torpedo level that's been kicked around for years and still works fine. That $300 trowel probably looked good in the catalog though, that's what gets me every time lmao.

You probably just bought a finishing trowel instead of a bricklaying one.
