Honestly, I heard a guy at the supply yard say he soaks his bricks for 30 minutes in the summer heat. Tried it on a patio job last week and it was a total game changer.

I mean, soaking bricks for 30 minutes in summer heat is actually a bad idea. They get way too wet. The mortar can't grab onto them right and the bricks can shift later. I usually just give them a quick splash so they're damp, not soaked. A totally saturated brick just causes more problems.

Yeah that makes sense, I had the same issue last summer. Just hosed them down for like 10 seconds right before laying them, kept them from sucking all the moisture out of the mortar too fast. A full soak in the heat is a total mess, the mix just slides around.
