Why did every bank switch to the same blue gradient overnight
I swear in 2019 my local credit union in Columbus had a fun orange circle logo, now every financial app I open looks like a copy of the same blue swoosh. Did some branding conference in 2020 convince everyone that navy gradients mean trust, or are they just scared to stand out? Has anyone else noticed their old bank's identity got erased in that rebrand wave?
The whole industry plays follow the leader because of that one Chase rebrand back in 2018 or so. Once the big guys do it, every regional bank and credit union hops on the same design trend within a year or two. Look at Capital One, they went from that red and blue swoosh to a cleaner navy look. Wells Fargo dropped the stagecoach vibes for a more plain gradient too. Small banks hire the same handful of branding firms, and those firms pitch the exact same safe, boring package because nobody got fired for choosing blue.
