Walked into a local coffee shop and their rebrand made me eat my words
I used to think Old Mill Cafe in Portland had the WORST logo. It was this boring clipart coffee cup from 2008. But I stopped in last week and they redid everything. The new mark is a simple line drawing of their actual mill building. I took a photo of it for my branding inspo folder. Has anyone else had a change of heart about a local business logo after they updated it?

yeah thats exactly what they did and its honestly brilliant. i work with small businesses on their branding sometimes and the number one mistake i see is people get a generic logo cause its cheap and easy. but a logo that actually means something to the local community is worth way more than some stock vector. the mill drawing probably cost em more upfront but now people will actually remember it and connect with it. plus its way harder to outgrow a logo thats tied to your actual building or history. if you ever rebrand something yourself always start with what makes you different visually not what looks trendy on pinterest.
