TIL a logo with a tagline baked into it is a trap, and I just redid 14 of them
Two years ago I would have bet money that squeezing the company tagline right under the logo was smart branding, because that's what every template I grabbed off the web did. Then a designer I follow on YouTube broke down three well known marks over coffee last Tuesday and pointed out how the words turn to mush the second you shrink the thing to a favicon or a hoodie chest. I checked my own files and wow, at 32 pixels wide my taglines were unreadable gray smears. What really sold me was an event banner job in July, a 6 foot print where the type looked fine, but the same art on the 1 inch name badges was a blurry mess. So I went back and pulled the tagline out of all 14 logos I'd made for local businesses, stacked the words separately below when needed. My vendor said the new badge files cut cleaner the very first print run. If you've split your logo and tagline apart, did you keep them as one lockup file or two separate ones?
