That logo critique in 2019 still shapes my color choices

A freelance client in Portland told me my palette was too safe, so I tried a burnt orange and slate combo on a coffee shop rebrand. Sales stayed flat, but the owner loved it and I've stopped ignoring that advice since. Anyone else get a piece of feedback that turned out better than their original plan?
