Showerthought: I paid $200 for a 'unique' logo that was just a flipped stock icon

Found the original asset online for $5 after I'd already approved the final files. Anyone else get burned by a 'custom' design that wasn't?

Paid a guy on Fiverr $150 for a "hand-drawn" mascot. Saw the exact same fox with a hat on a stock site a week later, just with my company colors slapped on. It's so frustrating when you think you're getting something made just for you. Makes you wonder how many "designers" are just flipping cheap clipart.

Ugh, but is it that big of a deal? A good logo is about being recognized, not about being the only one who owns a picture. Big companies use simple shapes all the time. That $5 icon probably works fine for your website. The real crime is paying $200 for something you could find yourself in five minutes.

Feel for you, that's a rough situation. It's one thing to grab a cheap icon off a site, but another to pay good money thinking you're getting something custom. Really makes you question who you can trust when it comes to design work.
