Just realized a YouTube logo review was steering me wrong for 6 months

I kept watching this one channel that breaks down logo redesigns and they hammered that sans serif is the only way to look modern. So I pushed my bakery client in Portland to drop their script logo even though I had a gut feeling it fit the brand. After the rebrand their regulars kept saying it felt cold and generic, and sales dipped about 15% over two months. I finally asked a local print shop owner and he said the script was what made them stand out on packaging. Anyone else ever follow a branding influencer's rule and regret it? What do you use to override that noise?

Did the print shop owner happen to mention how the script logo actually worked on merch or stickers, not just the packaging? Cause I feel like that's the real test nobody talks about. I've seen bakeries where the script gets slapped on a coffee bag and it's magic, but swap it for a clean sans and suddenly the same bag looks like a generic protein powder label. You gotta think about every surface that logo touches, not just the sign or the website. That's where these logo review channels totally miss the point, they're looking at a screen, not a shelf or a tote bag.
