Heard someone say flat logos are lazy design and it got me thinking
I was at a coffee shop last Saturday and overheard a graphic designer telling his friend that flat logos are just lazy shortcuts, not actual branding. But then I look at something like the old Mastercard logo versus the new one, and the flat version feels cleaner and more functional on a tiny mobile screen. On the other hand, I get the complaint that a flat logo can lose personality and feel boring compared to a detailed mark. What's your take do flat logos save a brand or just cheapen it?

Is this really worth getting worked up over?

You know, I used to be the same way. I'd roll my eyes when people got worked up about what seemed like small stuff. But then something happened with my neighbor's kid last year that totally flipped my view. He's been getting picked on at school, nothing huge, but it's been eating at him for months. One day he just broke down about how nobody thought it was a big deal. That made me realize that sometimes these things aren't about the surface level issue. For some people, it's the last straw in a whole pile of little things they've been holding in. Your mileage may vary, but I've seen how dismissing something as "not worth getting worked up over" can actually make someone feel even more alone with their problem.
