A $4.2 million logo fix? That stat about rebrands flopping made me check my own work files
I stumbled on a writeup from a design blog last Monday that said a big share of rebrand launches get walked back within two years because the logo stops working at small sizes. The number they threw out was 42%, and it came from a survey of marketing leads at companies with 200+ workers. What got me was the reason: most of the fails were logos that looked fine on a laptop but turned into mush as a 16px app icon or a stitched patch. I went back through my own folder and two of my last five marks go blurry below 32px, which I never caught because I always present at full screen. If you want to test it yourself, shrink your logo to 16px and look at it on a phone in daylight, no squinting allowed. Has anyone here built size checks into their handoff process, and where do you draw the line before a mark gets too simple?
Two of my last five marks go blurry below 32px" just means those logos were too busy, not that size checks are some magic fix, simple marks fail small too when they're just plain boring.
