That one week in June where my ferns just gave up

I had a whole row of Boston ferns on my porch in Nashville that were looking perfect all spring. Then came that week in June where it hit 97 degrees for 5 days straight and they just turned brown and crispy overnight. I tried misting them twice a day but it was like watching them die in slow motion. Has anyone else had a whole batch of plants just rebel against the heat like that?

Oh man, that crispy fern life is haunting. Mine turned into what looked like sad, dry pine needles after three days of heat. Misting them just made me feel like I was giving CPR to a corpse.

97 degrees for five days straight sounds brutal.
