That guy at the garden center changed my mind about succulents

I always thought succulents were boring, just green blobs that sit there. Then this older guy at Armstrong's in Cleveland showed me his grandmother's 40 year old jade plant that looked like a little tree. He said 'they just need time and neglect, nothing fancy' and now I have twelve on my windowsill. Anyone else get converted by a random stranger's plant story?

Right, "they just need time and neglect, nothing fancy" is practically my life motto now. My first succulent I bought as a "rescue" from a clearance rack - it was just one sad, shriveled leaf. I named it Greg and basically forgot about it for two months. Now Greg has like eight baby leaves and is honestly doing better than most of my houseplants that I actually water on a schedule. I have officially become the person who tells everyone their plants are dying from too much love.

I heard someone say succulents thrive on neglect because they evolved in dry cliffs where nobody watered them at all. How do you keep Greg from getting too crowded with babies?
