That gardener in Tulsa dropped a soil mix secret on me
Was helping my aunt repot her orchids last weekend and her neighbor, a guy who grows monster monstera, said to add 10 percent crushed charcoal to the potting mix. I tried it on two plants that were struggling with root rot, and in 3 weeks they pushed out new roots like crazy. He also said to water with diluted banana peel tea once a month, which sounded gross but honestly the leaves look way shinier now. Anyone else tried charcoal in their mix or is this just a Tulsa thing?

That crushed charcoal trick sounds like a real game changer, kinda like how people use it in aquariums to keep things clean... it probably acts the same way by trapping all the junk that causes rot before it spreads. I bet that banana peel tea is doing more than just shine, too, since the potassium in the peels breaks down slow and feeds the roots over time... maybe try steeping the peels longer next time to get an even stronger mix.
