That cheap pH test kit at the garden center actually worked well

I was trying to figure out why my hydrangeas kept turning pink instead of blue in my backyard soil. Picked up a $7 kit from the local greenhouse last Saturday and it showed my pH was way too high for blue blooms. Has anyone else had luck adjusting soil with coffee grounds or should I look at something stronger?

Coffee grounds worked okay for me but it took forever to see any change. I ended up using a sulfur-based soil acidifier and my hydrangeas finally turned blue within a few months.

Dollar store ones actually surprised me too, they work fine for basic soil checks.
