Shoutout to the person at the Portland plant swap who said all succulents need full sun

I keep seeing this advice and it's just not true, especially for something like a Haworthia. I had a nice cluster in a south facing window in Phoenix and it got totally scorched in about two weeks. They do way better with some shade. Has anyone else had a plant fry because of bad light advice?

Read a blog post from a grower in Arizona who said treating all succulents the same is a recipe for disaster. They pointed out haworthias and some aloes actually burn in direct afternoon sun. My string of pearls completely dried up because I followed that "full sun only" rule. It's frustrating how often this gets repeated without any nuance. Plants from different places have different needs. That blanket advice kills more plants than it helps.

Oh, that reminds me of what @eva_rivera said about different needs. I nearly lost a nice gasteria the same way before I wised up.

That Haworthia in a south window in Phoenix is basically a death sentence, bet you learned that the hard way. So when you see people online swearing by "full sun for all succulents," do you think they're mostly parroting what works for their climate without testing it, or is it just easier to give one-size-fits-all advice? Because I've noticed the folks actually growing stuff like lithops or split rocks in the ground here rarely tell newcomers to blast everything with direct rays.
