Rant: I saw a guy at the Denver Botanic Gardens just pull a leaf off a rare fern to take home

He was with his kid and said, 'It's just one leaf, they won't miss it.' I told him that damages the plant and sets a bad example, and he just shrugged. How do you even deal with people who think public gardens are their personal picking grounds?

My neighbor used to pick flowers from the park's rose bushes. One day the whole bed was just gone, probably because too many people had the same idea.

Man that reminds me of something my friend saw last summer. She watched a lady take tomatoes from a community garden every day for a week. Then one morning the whole plant was just ripped out of the ground, like someone got fed up. It's wild how one person thinks it's fine until everyone does it and ruins it.

Yeah, it's like a weird lesson in group projects where everyone fails. River_wright's story about the tomato plant is the same energy. Someone always has to push it until the whole thing gets wrecked for everyone. My old apartment had a shared herb garden that went the same way, just a sad pot of dirt by July. Why is it so hard for people to just take a little and leave some for the next person?
