Overheard a guy at the garden center say moss is just 'lazy grass'
I was picking up a new monstera pot at Armstrong's on Saturday when some dude told his friend that moss is basically grass that gave up. It got me thinking about how we judge plants by human standards when they're just doing their thing in different conditions. Has anyone else caught a weird take on plants that actually made you rethink your whole approach to gardening?

Honestly, I think people are looking way too deep into this. It's just some guy joking around at a garden center, not a botanical philosophy lecture. Moss isn't "lazy grass" any more than a cactus is a "thirsty rock" or whatever. They're totally different things that evolved for completely different spots. I get the appeal of finding deep meaning in random comments, but sometimes a joke is just a joke. Not everything has to be a rethink of your whole life approach.

Three guys in the parking lot at Lowe's once told me lichen was just "plant herpes," so I guess garden centers are just full of botanists now. I half expected someone to stand on a planter and give a TED Talk about why dandelions are "communist grass." Honestly, if moss is lazy grass, then my neighbor's crabgrass is a meth-addicted lawn that's been up for three days straight. Maybe we should just let plants be plants and stop projecting our work ethic onto them.
