My little garden shed finally smells like soil instead of rotting wood

Three years ago I built a small lean-to shed for my potted plants in the backyard, but last spring the floorboards started getting spongy... I finally ripped them out last month and laid down a proper gravel base with pressure-treated planks, and now every time I walk in there it just smells like healthy dirt and peat moss. Has anyone else had a shed floor rot out on them even with good drainage?

Three years is about right for untreated plywood on dirt - you probably should have gone with treated lumber from the start, but at least now you've got a proper base that should last.

Oh come on, it's not like it's gonna collapse tomorrow. A little rot on some plywood under a shed is pretty standard stuff, most folks just slap a new sheet on and call it a day. Unless you're storing gold bars in there, who really needs a concrete foundation for a backyard shed? I bet half the sheds in the country are sitting on old pallets or a couple of cinder blocks and nobody's crying about it. Yeah, treated lumber is better, but let's not act like this guy's shed is a life safety hazard.
