My basil plant died because I was too nice to it
I was watering my basil on the kitchen windowsill every single day for two weeks. It started turning yellow and drooping, and I thought it needed more water. Turns out I was drowning the roots - my neighbor who grows herbs said I should have let the soil dry out between waterings. The plant was totally mush by the time I figured it out. Anyone else kill a plant with too much care?

I overwatered a snake plant back in 2019 and it's a shame because those things are supposed to be bulletproof. The crazy part is nobody talks about how the pot matters just as much as the watering schedule. I bet your basil was in a glazed ceramic pot with no drainage holes. If the water can't escape then the roots just sit in a puddle every day. My neighbor told me terracotta pots are way better because they let the soil breathe. You can even feel how heavy the pot is after watering - if it's still heavy two days later you know you gave it too much. Live and learn I guess.

Yeah totally, the pot thing is huge. I killed a peace lily once because I thought any pot would work, and it was in this cute ceramic one with no drainage. Rookie move. Now I only use terracotta too and my plants actually survive, lol.
