Met a guy at the Denver Botanic Gardens who said his favorite part was the 'quiet hum' of the greenhouse.

Absolutely! That quiet hum is the best part. I love the Denver greenhouses too, especially the tropical one. You get that warm, damp air and the soft sound of water dripping. It's like the whole place is breathing. Makes you just stop and listen for a minute.

Funny enough, I had that same moment at the Denver greenhouse about two years ago. I was there with my little niece who was totally bored until she heard this drip-drip-drip coming from behind this huge fern. She started following it like a detective and I just stood there watching her, and that's when I really heard it too. It turned into this whole game where we tried to find the source of every little sound in there. There was a fan humming in the corner and some kind of pump cycling on and off every 30 seconds or so. By the end she was convinced the plants were whispering to each other, and honestly I wasn't gonna argue with her.

Honestly used to think greenhouses were just hot and boring, @rowan_thomas. Then I stood still in that tropical room and really heard all those tiny water sounds. It totally flipped my view. Now I get why people just go there to stand around.

That's a really specific detail to remember. Makes me wonder what else he noticed in there that most people walk right past. Did he mention any other sounds or was it just that hum?
