Buried a banana peel under my monstera 3 months ago, and the newest leaf came out bigger than my hand
So back in March I was reading some old gardening forum thread where a guy in Orlando swore he buried banana peels about two inches down around his pothos and it went nuts. I figured whatever, I eat a banana every morning anyway, so I started burying one peel a week around the drip line of my monstera, just chopped up into little pieces with kitchen scissors. First month nothing happened, honestly I forgot about it. Then around week 6 the plant pushed out two aerial roots at once, which it had never done in the 2 years I've had it. Last Saturday the newest leaf finally opened up and it's easily 14 inches across, bigger than the last 5 leaves combined. The only thing I changed was the peels, same window, same watering can schedule, same pot. I know people say banana peels don't really add much potassium until they break down, so maybe it's just the moisture or the fungus activity or something, but I'm not arguing with results. Has anyone else tried this with other kitchen scraps, and did coffee grounds do anything for your plants or just mold over?
