Appreciation post: My trip to the Atlanta Botanical Garden last spring

I got so excited pointing out a rare orchid that I walked straight into a decorative pond, phone in pocket. Now I always check my footing before geeking out over flora, anyone else have a clumsy plant moment?

That's a pretty funny story but honestly, was the pond that deep? Sounds like a minor splash, not a full on disaster.

Read an article last year about a guy who slipped into a garden pond. He thought it was shallow too, but he hit a submerged rock and broke his ankle. Water depth can be really misleading, especially with mud and stuff you can't see. What looks like a small splash can definitely turn into a full disaster.

@grace926, you're right that even a small pond can be dangerous. I knew someone who fell into a neighbor's koi pond, just a few feet deep, but the liner was slippery and they hit their head on the edge. Ended up with a concussion and needed stitches. People don't think about how hard a concrete bottom or a sharp rock can be when you're falling wrong. That "small splash" can absolutely turn into a trip to the ER. Appreciate you bringing up that article, it's a good reminder for everyone.
