Warning: That perfect week of binding turned into a nightmare when my sewing frame broke
I had six books lined up for the same client, spines aligned, endpapers cut, everything going smooth as butter until my sewing frame slipped mid-stitch and threw off the first three signatures. Turns out the tension screw had been loose for months, and I only noticed after I'd ruined a $40 piece of linen cloth. Has anyone else had a run of good luck suddenly fall apart because of one overlooked tool issue?

that perfect week of binding turned into a nightmare" - Not really a nightmare though, is it? A broken sewing frame is annoying, but calling it a nightmare is a bit dramatic. You caught the problem before messing up the whole book, and linen cloth can be reused for smaller projects or practice. I've had worse, like finding a bunch of mold on a whole box of leather I'd stored wrong. That's more of a nightmare. The frame issue is just a tool check you missed.

So what setup do you use for your frame checks then?
