Vent: customer said my $18 leather hinge repair should last 'like new' for a decade
They cited some YouTube video from a guy who never bound a book in his life, so I spent 20 minutes explaining that worn calfskin from 1942 can only take so much before I asked if they'd ever demand a 10-year guarantee on their own worn-out boots. Has anyone else had to talk a client down from impossible expectations after they watched one glossy tutorial?}
I had a guy bring in a 1910 dictionary last spring, spine was held together with electrical tape and hope. He watched some video where a dude used Elmer's glue and a hair dryer and swore that was the ticket. I told him the paper was so brittle it would crumble if I sneezed near it, and he still asked for a five year warranty. Some folks think a YouTube clip is the same as 30 years of doing something with your hands. The tape guy actually cussed me out and took it to a craft store. Came back two months later with a box of loose pages and did not say a word.
