Unpopular opinion: I wasted $80 on a bone folder from a fancy woodworker

Everyone raves about those handmade bone folders from Etsy woodworkers, so I grabbed one from a shop in Portland for my binding work. Thing was gorgeous and expensive at 80 bucks, but after 3 uses the edge started chipping and it dragged like crazy on my paper. My old $12 nylon one from Hollander's actually glides smoother and has lasted years without issue. Anyone else had a similar letdown with fancy tools that just didn't perform?

That Portland guy's known more for looks than function. Did you check the bone quality before buying or just assume it was good cause it was pricey?

Spent fifty bucks on a fancy bamboo stitching pony once. Looked great on my desk, then promptly split in half the third time I used it. My cheap plastic one from a garage sale is still going strong ten years later.
