The hinge jig that made me rebuild a 40 year old binding

Watched a guy at the Portland book fair demo a simple brass hinge jig and it took me three tries at home to copy his setup, but now I won't do rounded spines without it. Has anyone else had one tool completely wreck their old workflow?
