Talking to a retired bookbinder at a garage sale changed how I trim pages
I was buying some old press boards off a guy in Portland who used to bind for the library system. He said his trick was to always trim paper grain first before measuring anything. I always just slapped signatures together and trimmed after sewing, but he showed me how it prevents that wavy edge you get on long runs. Has anyone else tried trimming grain direction early instead of at the end?

Wait, you mean people actually check grain before trimming and not just after?
