Noticed a big shift in how people treat old leather covers after that big restoration video went viral six months ago.

Before, I'd see folks trying to scrub them clean with saddle soap, but now at least three customers this week have specifically asked me to just condition and stabilize, which saves the original patina and structure.

My buddy had this amazing old briefcase from his grandpa, all cracked and worn. He used to attack it with cleaner every few months trying to make it look new. After that video blew up, he totally switched gears. Last time I saw him, he was just gently working in some conditioner, and he was so proud it still looked like his grandpa actually used it. Funny how one video can change so many minds, right?

Yeah, that whole "patina" thing really took off. I read this article about how people used to refinish old furniture until it looked factory new, basically erasing its history. Now the goal is to keep the wear marks and stains that tell a story. Like, a coffee ring on a desk becomes proof it was actually used for late nights, not just a showpiece. It’s a complete flip in how we see old stuff.
