My copy of 'The Hobbit' started to fall apart after just two years.
I was using a basic PVA glue for the spine and thought it was fine. The tip off was when a friend in Portland showed me her 10 year old rebound book, still solid, and asked what adhesive I used. She said, 'That's your problem right there.' Anyone have a better glue recommendation for fiction hardcovers?

That "problem right there" with PVA reminds me of a friend who had the same issue. She switched to a flexible bookbinding glue for her paperbacks and it made a huge difference. Her repairs actually hold up now.

Oh yeah, my buddy did that too and it worked great.

Totally, that flexible glue is a game changer. I started using it for my old cookbooks and they don't crack at the spine anymore.
