Hand-stitching fell apart on my daily use journal

I bound my journal with hand-stitching thinking it would last. After a month of carrying it around, the threads are already loose. Is hand-stitching just for show, not for real use?

Yeah it looks good but doesn't hold up. You gotta use tougher thread next time.

Ugh yes, totally learned that the hard way. That shiny all-purpose thread just snaps on heavy fabrics after a few washes. Polyester or even upholstery thread makes a huge difference for things that get real use.

Totally feel that, had the same thing happen on a denim tote bag I made. The seams just gave out after carrying heavy books for a week. Switched to a heavier duty thread and it's been solid for years now.
