Why does nobody talk about how long it takes to find a book everyone will actually read?

Our club tried to pick our next read for almost a month. We have eight people with very different tastes. One member only reads sci-fi, another hates anything sad, and two people refuse to read books over 400 pages. I suggested 'Cloud Cuckoo Land' by Anthony Doerr, thinking its different stories might please everyone. The sci-fi fan said no because it wasn't set in space, and the person who hates sad books worried it would be dark. We went back and forth over email for weeks, suggesting maybe fifteen books total. We finally settled on 'The Thursday Murder Club' because it was light and not too long. The whole process took us four meetings just to decide. Has your group ever gotten stuck like this on just picking the book?

My friend's book club spent six weeks trying to pick a book last fall. They had one person, like @sandra146, who loved the debate, but the rest were totally worn out. They finally landed on a mystery set in a bakery, but two people dropped out before the first meeting because the process was so annoying.

That sounds like the best part to me honestly.
