The audiobook narrator ruined the whole mystery for me last night

Our club picked a thriller for this month and I grabbed the audio version to listen during my commute. Twenty minutes in, the narrator does this dramatic pause right before revealing who the killer is in the first chapter. I checked the print copy at our meeting and that warning is not in the text at all. Why do narrators add their own dramatic flair when the book clearly wants suspense? I'm stuck knowing everything and the rest of the group is enjoying the puzzle. Has anyone else had an audiobook spoil a book club pick just from bad narration choices?

Man, that narrator basically turned the reveal into a dramatic movie trailer. Next time they'll add a fog machine and a Wilhelm scream for the door creak. Sounds like you got the director's cut while everyone else got the book club version. Maybe start skipping ahead five minutes every chapter just to dodge their "artistic choices." At least now you can pretend to be mystified and drop fake theories that are hilariously wrong. That's its own kind of fun, honestly.
