That $70 annotated classic made me feel like a fraud in my own book club
I spent 70 bucks on a fancy annotated edition of Ulysses thinking it would make me look smart in our group. Instead I spent two weeks drowning in footnotes and still missed the whole point. Another member who read a free PDF from the library led the discussion while I sat there nodding. Has anyone else dropped serious money on a book and ended up worse off than if you just read it plain?

Those footnotes ever make the actual reading feel like homework instead of a story?
