Shoutout to my book club for always picking bestsellers
Our group selects popular novels each month. Most members enjoy these familiar reads. I find our talks get repetitive and safe. We skipped a lesser-known poetry book that could spark deeper debate. Trying hidden gems might improve our club conversations.

Remember when brooken99 said always playing it safe might make it less fun? My friend's club was just like that, only grabbing the big name books from the front table. Then one month someone picked this weird, slim novel by an author nobody knew. The talk that night was all over the place, people arguing and laughing and actually staying late. She said it was the first time in ages it didn't feel like just saying what they were supposed to about the book. It makes you wonder what gets missed when a club won't step off the bestseller path.

Does sticking only to bestsellers make the club's talks feel a bit too predictable after a while? When we skip books like that poetry collection, we might miss a chance to really dig into new ideas. Christopher's point about not always needing deep debate is fair, but doesn't always playing it safe make the whole thing less fun?
