Pro tip: I was wrong about reading the book before book club
For two years I showed up to my Wednesday book club in Portland having read every page, and I thought people who skimmed were just lazy. Then we did a 400 page novel in 3 weeks during my busy season at work, so I read the summary and first chapter of each section instead. Best talk we ever had. Turns out the people who finish every word mostly just recap plot, while the skimmers ask what the book was actually doing. Anyone else find the discussion gets better when you do not read the whole thing?
