Picked the wrong book for our club's beach trip and got roasted for it
I chose a 600 page historical fiction about 19th century whaling for our annual Outer Banks trip last month thinking we'd have plenty of beach time to read it. Everyone else packed thrillers and rom-coms, and I spent most of the trip getting sunscreen on pages nobody else wanted to borrow. Has anyone else picked a book that completely bombed for your group's setting?

Next time grab a paperback that fits in a cargo pocket and won't feel like a brick in your bag. Hardcovers are for cabin reading, not beach trips, learned that one the hard way myself.

Roll your eyes a little, it's just a book club trip not a TED Talk on beach etiquette. I've brought dense non-fiction to pool days before and nobody cared because they were too busy drinking and arguing about which chair had the best sun. Unless your friends are handing out grades for book selection, I don't see the big deal. Next time maybe just pass around the sunscreen and let them roast you for free.
