Our club's group chat killed the actual discussion, is that weird?

I remember 5 years ago at my club in Portland we would argue about the ending for like an hour after the meeting. Now everyone just posts hot takes in the group chat the night before and by the time we sit down, it's all been said. Last week nobody even brought up the third act twist because someone already made a meme about it. Has anyone else noticed the meeting itself just feels like a recap now?
